Children of the Ark Nursery and Primary School is located in Mamprobi, Accra in Ghana, West Africa. The school was founded in 1996 by the late Mrs. Beatrice Ablah Lokko. The school was established as a Christian Child Care Centre on the First of October, 1996 to provide sound religious pre-school education for children in the community. The school's mission, drawing from its motto safe and sound, is to provide a safe environment away from home and sound education to the children in the neighborhood many of whom come from low income families and broken homes. The colors of the school are blue and yellow.
The school started with four children but within one year the number had increased to twenty-five. For the first five years of its existence, the school admitted toddlers from ages two through six. In August 2001, the age for admission was reduced to six months because of requests from parents. That year the school term started with one baby and ended with four. Extended hours were provided for babies and parents were allowed to drop them off even when regular school was not in session.
In September of 2010, the school added a primary section, starting with Grade One. The school currently enrolls students for pre-school, elementary and middle school (grade 7). Given the lack of a functioning building to house students (a majority of the classes take place outdoors under a canopy), average class sizes are 5 students, with grade 7 having only two students. Given the low student-ratio and low income status of the parents whose children attend the school, it has been an uphill battle to generate funds for infrastructural expansion.
